Comments (English): Stayed at the executive floor. Pick-up at airport was 30 minutes late. Food at executive lounge was bad. Waitress was busy watching TV all the time. Toilet doors were glass - no privacy at all. Quality of breakfast was bad. Wanted to eat at the Chinese restaurant but they chased us (a family of 6) away because they had only private rooms for 10-12 people. Aircon in suite was faulty. Only the receptionists at the executive floor were polite and helpful. There are so many hotels in Kunming, so this is one I will never ever need to return to.

Comments (English): The location of this property was superb. The staff very very helpfull on changing reservations as we arrived 1 day early. English was a little limited but problems with the WiFi was soon fixed. Room was great, services of the Massuer was excellent. The only comment I would make is that when we tried to talk to the Tour Desk english was non existent and we were sent back to the Reception. There were no brochures, maps or any information to point us in any direction of sites around this very nice city. Had there been any information in English we would have organised ourselves as we are regular travellers We had a forced stopover and had made no plans. It was dissapointing to miss some great sites.

Comments (English): Location of hotel is perfect. Beds in room are comfortable. International tv channels such as CNN and HBO. Breakfast buffet is splendid with a wide range of choices - really unique! Every day newspaper - for non-Chinese would be helpful to get China Daily instead of Chinese newspaper, but after asking for this, I got it every day - so good service. The only real disadvantage is that you need to book through internet, because at the reception it is three times as expensive. I first stayed a few days, after which I travelled for business in the province and came back to New Era after one week. It was not possible to book the second period after one week, before I left for travelling in the province, which was quite inconvenient.

Comments (English): We stayed 3 nights at the New Era Hotel; price-quality relation was great and the hotel is extremely conveniently located. Only negatives were trifles...great 4-star Chinese hotel! We upgraded to the Executive floor, and got a 5-star room and service for a 2-star price...

Comments (English): I moved here after a disappointing experience at the Grand Park Harbor Hotel which was near the lake but had very basic rooms-sort of depressing and blank. The room here was very nicely furnished although the bathroom was slightly dated and one needs to be careful about room charges since they charge for everything including the bottled water and the special soaps. If you didn't read the mini bar menu one could easily mistake them for complimentary toiletries!
But the rooms were pleasant and comfortable and our room overlooked the large central downtown plaza and pedestrian street full of shops, a move theatre across the street in the high rise that is full of shopping and reasonably priced restaurants. Its also close to the so-called bird and flower market historic area. We were only there for a day and the hotel had all the conveniences we needed in a pleasant area.

Comments (English): We chose this hotel based on reviews here. It did not disappoint!
The facade of the hotel seemed old when we were walking towards it and I began to have apprehensions of the hotel. However, the interior totally is diff from the exterior. The lobby is beautiful and the room is very good! Check-in was fast and they upgraded me to the next level room category (i booked a deluxe initially).
This hotel is located right smack in the city centre, so its very convienient to walk to anywhere for shopping, cinemas, foodies etc. There are many large shopping malls nearby and the supermarts are aplenty in the shopping malls.
One bad thing tho -- as this hotel is in such a centralsied locatio, if u are going to hotel in the peak hr, there could be many jams along the way. However, its a good overall experience and I would certainly stay at this hotel again! The breakfast spread is also one of the better ones for China hotels.
Come stay here!

Comments (English): The New Era Hotel is located in the center of the shopping district, quite a glitzy area. The area is loaded with Mac Donalds, KFCs and Pizza Huts but no decent local type restaurants. The shops are very expensive. This is an ok rest stop, but more than one day woud be excessive.
The forced room deposit collected at check in was a surprise.
